Founder project. I planned how WP ShopEfy works: how customers find, buy and download GPL-licensed WordPress themes and plugins, through single purchases or monthly access.

WP ShopEfy: a simpler way to access WordPress themes and plugins

Overview

WP ShopEfy is a platform that gives website owners, freelancers and agencies access to GPL-licensed WordPress themes and plugins. Customers can buy a single product or choose monthly access to the wider catalogue. As founder, my work was to decide how the platform should function: what customers see, how they choose and pay, how downloads and access work, and what the team needs to manage products and customers. WP ShopEfy distributes GPL-licensed products and is not affiliated with the original theme and plugin developers.

The opportunity

People who build WordPress websites often need several premium themes and plugins, sometimes only to test or for a single project. Buying each one separately can be costly, and finding a trustworthy, simple place to get them is not always easy. The opportunity was to plan a store that makes this straightforward: clear product information, easy checkout, reliable downloads and a choice between paying for one item or getting ongoing access.

Objectives

- Make it easy to find the right theme or plugin by name, type and category - Offer two clear ways to buy: a single purchase or monthly access - Give customers reliable, organised access to their downloads after payment - Be transparent about what GPL-licensed products include and what they do not - Give the team simple tools to add products, publish updates and support customers

Proposed solution

I planned WP ShopEfy as an online store with two purchase paths that share one product catalogue. Single purchase: the customer chooses a product, pays once and downloads it from their account. Monthly access: the customer subscribes and can download any product in the plan while their subscription is active. Around these paths, the plan defined product pages, account areas, licence information and the admin tools needed to keep the catalogue up to date.

Frontend functionality

- Home page that explains the two ways to buy in plain language - Catalogue with categories (themes, plugins) and search by product name - Product pages with description, version information, category and what the GPL licence means for the buyer - Comparison of single purchase and monthly access so customers can choose quickly - Checkout for one-time and recurring payments - Customer account with order history, downloads and subscription status - Clear pages for licence terms, refunds and support [ADD SCREENSHOT: home page] [ADD SCREENSHOT: product page] [ADD SCREENSHOT: customer downloads area]

Backend functionality

- Product management: add products, upload files, set categories, versions and prices - Update handling: replace files with newer versions while keeping the product history clear - Orders and subscriptions: see purchases, active and expired subscriptions - Access rules: downloads available only for paid orders or active subscriptions - Customer support: find a customer, check their orders and resend access - Basic reports: sales and subscription overview for the team

User workflows

Customer journey, single purchase: 1. Searches or browses for a theme or plugin 2. Reads the product page and licence information 3. Pays once at checkout 4. Downloads the file from their account Customer journey, monthly access: 1. Compares single purchase with monthly access 2. Subscribes 3. Downloads products included in the plan while the subscription is active 4. Manages or cancels the subscription from their account Team workflow: 1. Adds or updates a product and its files 2. Publishes it to the catalogue 3. Handles customer questions using order and subscription details

Key deliverables

- Platform concept and positioning - Feature list for the store, customer accounts and admin - Customer journeys for single purchase and monthly access - Access and download rules - Admin and product management requirements - Content structure for product and policy pages
